Daily life
Lagos is a town on the coast; Porto is a large city on the coast. Lagos is a small Algarve town with famous cliffs and coves, a big English-speaking community and over 3,000 hours of sun a year. It is busy in summer, quiet in winter and you will want a car for anything beyond the town. Porto offers much of Lisbon's charm with lower rents, a real sense of a working city and Atlantic beaches by tram. Winters are wetter and cooler than in the south, and flights to North America are fewer.
Living in Lagos: the upsides and downsides
- Some of Europe's most beautiful beaches and cliffs

- Downside: Many rentals switch to holiday lets in summer

Living in Porto: the upsides and downsides

- Beaches, the Douro valley and northern Portugal on your doorstep
