Immigration lawyers in Portugal, Spain and Italy

A residence visa application is easier with a local lawyer, and expensive if you pick the wrong one. Here is how to check that a lawyer is really registered to practise, plus a free list of firms we have checked against the official bar register.

Five checks before you pay anyone

  1. Look them up in the bar register. A real lawyer has a registration number you can check yourself in a minute. Each country page above shows where.
  2. Get the fee in writing. Ask what is included (document review, translations, appointments, appeals) and what costs extra.
  3. Ask who does the work. Some firms pass files to assistants or to a partner firm in another city.
  4. Check the visa yourself. Read the official requirements for your route so you can spot a promise that sounds too good. Our visa pages link to the government source for each one.
  5. Be wary of guarantees. No one can guarantee a visa: the decision belongs to the consulate or immigration office.

Other EU countries

The European Commission's Find a lawyer tool searches the registers of participating bar associations in real time, across 24 European countries. Portugal is not one of them.

Listings are free. We list a firm only after checking the lawyer in the official bar register, and the list is in alphabetical order, never paid order.
