Daily life

Braga is a mid-size city; Lisbon is a capital / metropolis on the coast. Braga is one of Portugal's youngest and most affordable cities, an hour from Porto, with a pretty historic center and a strong family feel. It is rainy in winter and inland, so it suits people who want value and calm over beaches. Lisbon is the best-connected and most international city in Portugal, with sunshine, a big nomad scene and direct flights to the US. It is also the most expensive Portuguese city and the one with the tightest housing, so budget for rent first.

Living in Braga: the upsides and downsides

  • Safe, young and family-friendly
